Description

BERTHA R8U34 perforated sheet metal prioritizes visual protection and robustness. It features Ø 8 mm round holes arranged in an orthogonal alignment (straight line pattern) with a regular pitch of 34 mm. Referenced as Rg8-34, this perforated geometry offers very low transparency, around 4.3% (≈50.3 mm² of opening for 1,156 mm² of mesh), ideal when the objective is to provide significant concealment while allowing slight ventilation and discreet light transmission. The linear pattern produces a more pronounced directional effect than a staggered pattern: the shadows form a regular grid, with a discreet but noticeable "grid effect" depending on the viewing angle. From a distance, BERTHA Rg8-34 perforated sheet metal appears as an almost solid, uniform, and soothing surface; up close, the 8 mm diameter punctuates the surface with a fine, understated dotted pattern, suitable for architecture where aesthetic neutrality and effective masking of the urban background are desired. With T = 34 mm and D = 8 mm, the solid "in-line" area reaches 26 mm in both directions: very comfortable. The result is high rigidity and favorable dimensional stability from a metal thickness of 1.5 mm. In unframed panels, unit sizes larger than those of very open patterns can be targeted; depending on exposure and supports, surfaces of 1.5 to 2.2 m² are still possible with 1.5 mm steel while maintaining adequate flatness. Beyond that, or on facades exposed to vandalism, peripheral framing, stiffening folds, or secondary framing are recommended. For large spans, switch to 2 mm to secure the blackout sheet metal. The low percentage of empty space limits direct views and glare from the sun; the 8 mm diameter reduces the possibility of fingers or objects passing through. The wide solid strips tolerate cutting, bending, and rolling well with little deformation. The weight per square meter of the metal sheet is higher than with open patterns: check the loads on the frame and ground anchors if the fence is subject to wind. Made of 1.5 mm thick galvanized steel, BERTHA – Rg8-34 perforated sheet metal generally costs between €58 and €85/m² for an order of around 100 m², depending on thickness, finish, layout, folds/stiffeners, and installation constraints. The material cost is higher (low void ratio), but the perforation time remains reasonable; overall, this results in a controlled budget for a robust and durable metal skin.

Uses

R8U34 – Bertha perforated sheet metal Bertha defined by its extreme density and rigorous pattern. With 8 mm round perforations arranged in straight lines, it forms a predominantly solid surface with a transparency of no more than 4%. This configuration gives the sheet metal a strong, almost mineral-like physical presence. It is intended for environments where concealment and protection must take precedence over ventilation: cladding for building bases, security walls, sensitive premises, machinery guards, or defensive fencing for technical equipment. The perforated sheet acts as a continuous and reassuring visual and structural barrier. Its regular orthogonal grid pattern expresses control and order. Unlike the more fluid and natural staggered arrangement, the alignment of the perforations here reinforces the geometric perception of the metal, emphasizing the discipline of the design and the continuity of the plane. The small openings make the sheet metal particularly suitable for areas exposed to vandalism, impact, or confidentiality requirements: the metal fully plays its protective role without altering the visual homogeneity of the cladding. On the façade, the Rg8-34 perforation has a sober and monolithic presence. It captures the light on the surface rather than letting it pass through. The perforations, sparse and regular, become subtle points of vibration on an almost opaque material. This delicate interplay between full and empty spaces produces a textile, almost architectural effect: the sheet metal does not show, it suggests. Bertha perforation Bertha designed for strong, silent architecture—technical buildings, urban infrastructure, enclosed parking lots, processing facilities, or the bases of collective buildings. Its high metal density gives it excellent mechanical strength: the sheet metal is resistant to impact, torsion, and wind stress. The surface remains stable and rigid, even in large formats.
